UL Lafayette is pleased to have reached a resolution with USDA regarding a complaint over events that occurred as part of routine housing and care of nonhuman primates, most of which were self reported by the New Iberia Research Center (NIRC). Consequently, UL Lafayette and the USDA mutually agreed to forgo a hearing.

The NIRC staff is devoted to ensuring the best care for nonhuman primates involved in high-quality biomedical research that leads to advances in the health and wellbeing of humans and nonhuman primates.

The center's commitment to exceptional quality of care is exemplified with NIRC obtaining outstanding ratings from the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) International twice in a row (2012 and 2015) for its animal care and breeding program. NIRC has been continuously accredited by AAALAC since 1988.
