The maintenance department at UL Lafayette-NIRC consists of nineteen employees. Maintenance specialists are skilled in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, hydraulics, welding, construction, general mechanics, and preventative maintenance techniques.

Preventative maintenance is an ongoing task and driven by Standard Operating Procedures. Maintenance personnel on site 365 days a year. Due to nature of our programs and the 24-hour schedule of the center, a select group of workers are available 24 hours a day any day of the year. In addition, auxiliary generator power is available to all critical systems (freezers, air exhaust, emergency lighting, etc) located at the Center.

Many of the animal housing units and implements for environmental enhancement used at the UL Lafayette-NIRC have been designed and/or built and modified by the department. Over the last eighteen years in addition to its daily activities, the Maintenance Department has constructed/renovated the majority of buildings that make up the UL Lafayette-NIRC. All factory repairs and new construction or expansion efforts are administrated by maintenance as well. The Center continues to stay abreast of the ever-developing facility needs and growth in the field of bio-medical research.
